Chiropractic

The foundations of chiropractic philosophy are based on the relationship of the skeleton to the nervous system, and therefore biomechanics and movement. Chiropractic is focused on the location and correction of the “vertebral subuxation complex” (VSC). The VSC is a multifaceted condition of functional and/ or structural change in a joint that compromises neural integrity. To correct the VSC, the animal chiropractor uses an adjustment, a specific, high velocity controlled thrust directed at a specific joint.

Acupuncture

Acupuncture is the stimulation of a specific point on the body resulting in a therapeutic effect. Research shows that acupoints are located in areas where there is a high density of free nerve endings, mast cells, small arterioles and lymphatic vessels. Many studies indicate that stimulation of acupoints induces release of beta-endorphin, serotonin, and other neurotransmitters, supporting the use of acupuncture for pain relief. Acupuncture has been practiced on both animals and humans in China since the Qin Mu Gong period (659-621 BC).

This comprehensive program of advanced eduction in the field of equine lameness and osteoarticular, musculotendinous and nervous pathology covers the different parts of the locomotor system of the horse. This continuing education provides Dr. Redmond with up-to-date and contemporary knowledge, in addition to techniques in the continually evolving field of equine locomotor analysis.
